So, do you think this is a tecate cypress? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/140... I saw it in Spain, but there are lots of Meditarranian plants from around the world there.

Thank you both for your input! I looked it up on a natural history catalog of California that my professor compiled. Anna, I also agree they look more like the tecate cypress. The incense cedar is on here as well if you are interested in comparing: http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/plants/Gymn...

I think they're a different variety from the blue ones. These pop open along the seams when they dry and drop the seeds. The open pod makes a wonderful texture tool for making ceramics!

Hm, I thought so too, but I've never seen them brown and leathery like this. And they were much bigger than the little blue berries I've seen.
