Mertensia virginica

Description:

Distinctive five petals fused together to form the "bell". Pinkish while budding and usually turns blue when fully bloomed. Pink and white variants.

Habitat:

Native to moist forests and floodplains on the east coast. Primarily pollinated by butterflies.

Notes:

Loads of them at Riverbend Park in Great Falls, VA. Colony goes on for more than a mile.
