Pariah Kite

Milvus migrans

Description:

I think the bird we have in India is Milvus migrans govinda. It has a strongly forked tail ...visible when in flight.

Habitat:

Pretty much everywhere....urban scavenger of sorts too. As a child I had a sweet snatched out of tightly clutched fingers by a Pariah kite...no scratch!

Notes:

I once observed a pair take care of its chick till it became an adult. Will add some photos to this spotting. In India it is called Cheel...on account of its shrill cry.
