American Goldfinch

Spinus tristus

Description:

The male of this species is unmistakable in its breeding plumage. The white wing bar on the black wing, the black cap, and (of course) the brilliant yellow plumage all make this bird hard to miss. The female has the same wing bar pattern, but is a duller tan-ish color.

Habitat:

Field, shrubs.
