Errapene carolina triunguis
Three-toed box turtles have a domed shell which grows to an average 4.5 to 5 inches in length. There are many variations, some upper shells are darker almost brown. Typically they have very few yellow markings. The head neck and arms have yellow, red and orange blotches.
Range is from Missouri south to Texas and southwest to Georgia. They inhabit humid grasslands, marshes, woodlands, and thickets.
