Furcifer verrucosus
Large species: male total length 56 cm; females 21 cm. Small crest fruns from eyes to snout, helmet like casque on head formed of scales; spiny crest runs along back in males but in females the crest is formed of tubercles. Large scales form lateral lines in both sexes. Female lays 30-60 eggs which incubate for approx. 200 days. A terrestrial species they favour arid disturbed land. Found in the south and west of the island.
