Rocky mountain elk

Cervus canadensis nelsoni

Description:

Colorado's got no shortage of mammals. I spotted these male elk with velvet antlers grazing at dusk. They looked up infrequently from behind the tall grass.

Habitat:

Found this herd of wild interlopers on someone's partly manicured farmland in Colorado, at an elevation of about 5300'.

Thank you, Tukup! …I think God deserves the praise for His creations. ;-)

This wasn’t too far from Rocky Mountain National Park. Saw this lovely sight on my way back from there, actually.

Truly magnificent. I've only seen them on Wildlife preserves and in National Parks. Great series. Thanks Mauna.
