Nicrophorus marginatus
American Burying Beetle
unfortunately it had been stepped on.
Michael,do the knobbed orange antenna point towards Nicrophorus americanus ?
Thanks Michael and Cindy :) These have a life span of about 12 months and judging by it's size, it had reached it's limit anyways.R.I.P lovely beetle.
Nice looking beetle. Too bad it was dead :(
It is a burying beetle (Nicrophorus sp.), but not Nicrophorus americanus (the endangered one). There are plenty of other species in North America.
This is the first time i so such a large beetle with such markings. I am assuming that is the Burying Beetle.
