Jumper Ant or Jumping Jack

Description:

Around 15mm. Head with a pair of long, thin, forward-pointing jaws with many teeth on the inner edge. These are aggressive ants with a powerful sting & the ability to jump short distances.

Habitat:

Open & closed forests of Eastern Australia, from Queensland to Victoria. Nests in soil with a raised entrance, often at the base of a clump of grass, tree or shrub.

HI Lauren & thank you! I had my longer lense on, but was wary of them. They get very jittery when you come even a little close. I certainly wouldn't like to be bitten or stung by them :)
