Family Sphecidae, approximately 25 mm, black / silver with a goldish part on abdomen.
Small park in Chiang Mai next to stream.
Thanks Lauren, I'm sat here with a big smile on my face! One of the reasons I joined PN was to learn, have not been disappointed. I really appreciate the time, patience and hard work of all who run this site. Please keep teaching, I'll try to keep up. Rob
Hi Rob. Your description should read "Family Sphecidae, approximately 25 mm, black/ silver etc….. ". We are being so funny no? Sticklers, picky scientist stuff :)
Hi Lauren, thank you for your instruction / education, I have edited the spotting, (still learning, I hope).
Hi Rob. Great picture! (Sphecidae is the family name and can't be put in the identification as a genus, i.e.: Sphecidae sp. is not correct. That section should remain blank until you get an identification of the actual species or genus). You can put the family name in the Description).
Hi John, thank you for the ID correction.
Nice wasp - but Sphecidae not Ichneumonidaehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphecidae
