Eastern Newt

Notophthalmus viridescens

Description:

Under water pictures shows the Eastern Newt, adult stage. They may have red spots. Adult males grow high tail fins and horny growths on their hind lets when they are ready to mate. Adults live in the water and change into aquatic adults. If the pond dries up, adults revert to efts, which live on land.

Habitat:

They live in clean ponds, rivers, marshes, and lakes.
