Tree Fern

Cyathea (Alsophila) erinacea

Description:

If you have never seen a fern that can grow as tall as a tree and that looks like a huge umbrella just come to the cloud forests of Costa Rica and there you will find many of them. (By the way, do not confuse them with palm trees: they are ferns!). C. erinacea can grow up to 15 m tall. The stem can be up to 17 cm in diameter.

Habitat:

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve.
