Buprestid beetle

Bupresta striata

Description:

Approximately 1.5 inches long, hard body, multi-colored metallic on head, thorax and body. Even legs and feet appear metallic in areas. Black striations betwixt the colors. This is a borer.

Habitat:

Prefers pine forests and mixed forests with pine. Their range is Eastern North America. Quebec south to Florida (also West Indies), west to Indiana, Missouri, Texas.

Notes:

This "fellow" was on the side of my house (it's almost a turquoise blue so maybe it was trying to blend in) just hanging out in the late afternoon. I have NO pinetrees on my property so it's interesting it chose to stop here. There is a small grove of mixed pine approximately 100m away.
