Sand Lizard(juvenile)

Description:

Measuring 5-6 cm, this Sand Lizard is a juvenile as they can grow up to 25 cm in length, they are present in most of Europe to Mongolia exept european Turkey and Iberia. They are identified by their lateral and dorsal dark patches with pale/bright centres. Coloration varies across Europe and Russia. Most of the specimens recides in eastern Europe, most common in Poland, Czech Republic, and countries around. One of their defensive mechanisms when attacked is to cut off their tail, leaving it to confuse the predator as it wiggles while the lizard run for safety. It is regarded as threatened and a European Protected Species. Habitat:

Road ditch, grassland, concrete fundation, dense under-vegetation, farmland. Leaf forest.
