Killdeer

Charadrius vociferus

Description:

It's call reminds me of a Sand Piper I think.

Habitat:

Coastal plains of Texas

Notes:

Seen on the ground pretending to be injured by dragging wing and flapping around and making a lot of noise to lure me away from her nest. Male seen doing the same and attacking people and animals getting too close to the nest and not deterred by the female.
