Description:

I think this may be a Prairie Yellowjacket, Vespula atropilosa.

Habitat:

Aspen leaves on tree at approx. 9000ft in Gunnison County, Colorado.

Notes:

Aspen leaf was curled at edges. This tree's leaves have many aphids and what looks like a crystallized substance on the surface of the leaves (honeydew?) Many bees visiting the leaves of this tree.
