Congrats Filippo, your hungry caterpillar is our Spotting of the Day! Caterpillars need to consume enough to sustain themselves into adulthood and must eat an enormous amount. Depending upon the species, a caterpillar can consume up to 27,000 times its body weight, increasing its body mass by as much as 1,000 times!

In my opinion, this is exactly the kind of picture that makes a great spotting because it documents a unique and unusual behavior. I've never seen a caterpillar eat it's way between the veins of a leaf. Well seen.
