Striped lynx spider (male)

Oxyopes salticus

Description:

The ground color of the cephalothorax and abdomen is yellow. Contrasting with the yellow color of the carapace are four longitudinal brownish lines extending from the posterior of the eye row to the thoracic declivity. A pair of thin black lines are present on the clypeus and front of the chelicerae. The dorsum of the abdomen is pale yellow with a dark cardiac mark and a pair of lines which taper posteriorly. Dark stripes are present along the sides of the abdomen. On the venter, the sternum is yellow while the bases of the coxae are black. The abdominal venter is pale yellow with a wide median dark band. (information from "Spiders of the Eastern United States")

Habitat:

Garden in a City park

Notes:

I worked hard in around 95° F weather to get these shots. The males were extremely shy and hard to get close to.
