Hi Rachel. Got the species - Ficus malayana. This is called the earth fig because the fruits grow from the roots on the ground. Really interesting that it looks parasitic although it is not. Maybe the bright red is just to attract animals to consume it.

Interesting. This looks like something parasitic coming out of the ground. There is so much amazing nature in Sabah. I have been 10 years ago and I am coming back this winter. Can't wait!
