Cercopis vulnerata
They have their name from the bright red drawing of black front wing covers ( elytra ) of the adult beetle -like animals , the extent of red coloration between and within species can vary. Very rare insects are not colored all black. The striking coloration of the blood cicadas suspect leave with her " carefree " behavior that they have chemical ingredients that make them inedible , at least for some insectivores . The frequency of blood cicadas is so great that a so-called Bates'sche mimicry seems unlikely as an imitator of protected taxa compared to other same colored taxa in Central Europe. Blood cicadas can be up to almost 10.5 millimeters long , depending on the kind of about 6.7 . The body shape is usually oblong or broadly oblong- oval in outline . The elytra are leathery , glabrous occupied with point except for the pits and Kiefernblutzikade ( Haematoloma dorsata ) . Blood cicadas, though often confused with beetles ( Coleoptera) , are easily recognizable on the roof-like wing stance as cicadas. Among the fore-wings are the membranous hind wings .
