yeah, you're right suzanne, i understand. this bud doesn't have the well-known red flower, but you can still tell it's a hibiscus. and thanks!

Cool, LandmarkExpert ... the nice thing about spottings like this is that they show you what a plant looks like when it's NOT doing whatever makes it most identifiable. And that's a right handy thing to know.
