Eastern Hellbender

Cryptobranchus alleganiensis

Description:

The largest salamander in North America, the Hellbender can grow up to 2 ft long.

Habitat:

Hellbenders can be found under large flat rocks in clear rivers and streams.

Notes:

This Hellbender was found on a survey trip with the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute, it was returned unharmed to the wild.
