A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Dissostera carolina
1 1/2 - 2 inches. A large grasshopper with a short antennae. Tan or grayish, sometimes with a rusty tinge. Hind wings black with broad yellow margins. Conspicuous in flight looking more like a white and black butterfly.
Roadsides, dry fields, vacant lots and dunes. Throughout North America.
In Vermont this year 2013 we have had more grasshoppers than ever seen in the past. Love them.
