These flies have even been reported to attack hummingbirds!

Spectacular spotting, batex! Gilma is right, this is an absolutely gorgeous robberfly. This is from the genus Promachus which consists of very large robberflies known as giant robberflies or cannibalflies.

Looks like you found a gorgeous, Robber-Fly.
