Hogna Wolf Spider

Description:

Hogna radiata is one of the Italy’s biggest wolf spider (Lycosidae family). Males are smaller than females, the body length are respectively 18 mm and 25 mm. Males can be found only in Springs, while females until autumn. Like all the lycosidae this species is nocturnal, while during daytime it remains hidden under stones or other objects on the soil. This species, like other wolf spiders, use its big eyes to hunter the preys, sometimes use its trichobothria for the same purpose. Despite its appearance it is a totally harmless spider for us.
