Lilac (flowering shrub)

Syringa

Description:

billowy masses of the wonderful smelling flowers in a variety of colors (blue, purple, white and yellow). Lilacs have been cultivated for years throughout the gardens of the world. They need cold winters. The improvement of the Lilac dates from 1843 when a nursery man at Liege in Belgium raised a plant with small double flowers. They reached Europe in 1597 by way of Constantinople and Vienna. Image four is the Common Lilac.
