Beaded Lacewing

Lomamyia sp.

Description:

Brown, shiny lacewing with antennae that look like beads. It rocked back and forth to mimic a leaf. The wing is even bent over a little to help sell the deception.

Habitat:

Attracted to the porch light at night in the backyard

Notes:

"Eggs are stalked, laid on wood surfaces near termite nests. Larvae live with and prey on termites, using an immobilizing gas (containing an allomone) discharged from their anus."
