Tortoise beetle

Cassida circumdata

Description:

These mating pair is being watched by Chalcid wasps which eat their eggs and larvae. The size of the beetle is about 7mm for the female and 5mm for the male. The wasps are about 1mm in size being one of the smallest wasps. They were perhaps being attracted by the pheromones released by the beetles. a mystery for me.

Habitat:

Meadows and shrubs.
