Notophthalmus viridescens
Orange red salamander-like larval newt. Red spots outlined in black in two rows the length of the body from neck to tail. With age, the eft becomes darker on back and develops a broader tail, leaving its larval land dwelling stage to become an aquatic adult.
Moist forest litter, appears above ground after heavy rains, usually crossing trails and roads.
