Pygmy Nuthatch

Sitta pygmaea

Description:

In California these are the smallest of the Nuthatches. Unlike the White-breasted and the Red-breasted, these usually fly in small flocks. Blue brown head and slate colored back and wings. Whitish undersides, short tail and medium pointed bill. Feet are made to hang in any direction on trees.

Habitat:

These favored Cypress and pine trees.

Thank you. Also unlike the others, these don't seem to be shy and were oblivious of my presence even while standing next to the tree. I could hear their wings as they flew around me.

Very nice - looks very similar to the brown-headed nuthatch
