Harlequin Bug

Dindymus versicolor

Description:

An instar (nymph) on a low shrub - approximately 15mm long body; black head, legs, antennae with white bands near tips.

Habitat:

On a shrub at a local sports field

Notes:

The new populations of these are already appearing as Spring casts it's spell. They often appear in huge numbers taking over whole plants. I have never noticed huge amounts of plant damage done by these - must watch more closely this year. Natives of south-eastern Australia but seem to enjoy life on many introduced plant species. ____________________________________________________________ order: HEMIPTERA suborder: HETEROPTERA infraorder: PENTATOMOMORPHA superfamily: PYRRHOCOROIDEA family: PYRRHOCORIDAE genus: Dindymus
