I was able to get back to this spot and get some more shots showing the entire plant. Rather than heart shaped, I think I would describe the leaves as arrow shaped. Should help in identifying it ...

Maybe you can look through salvia pics on a google search & find the species..I looked through quite a few but was limited by the one pic. Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestion ceherzog - I don't think the leaves are the right shape for Salvia sinaloensis. I apologize for not including a shot of the leaves - I know I should get a shot of the whole plant if I want to identify it but somehow neglected to do so this time... The leaves are more heart shaped. I agree it is probably Salvia genus though..

I'm not positive that the species is sinaloensis...but it's a Salvia.
