Gloeophyllum sepiarium
Cap: Single or compound, semicircular, about 12 cm across and 8 cm deep, irregulary bracket-shaped, flattened-convex. Concentric zones of texture and color, at first yellow to orange, becoming yellow-brown to dark brown or nearly black toward the point of attachment but usually remaining yellow to orange on the growing margin. It has both gills and pores.
This fungus is found on deadwood of conifers and occasionally on hardwoods such as the quaking aspen.
This polypore was found off the Egg Lake Trail in a dense deciduous forest.
