Western Gull

Larus occidentalis

Description:

Gulls may have a reputation as garbage eaters, but the gulls on my beach are accomplished clammers and crabbers. In the right tidal conditions they will do a slow cruise over shallow water looking for crabs, then 'dive' on them and take a successful catch up onto the beach to eat at their leisure.
