Description:

Beautiful little green variegated lizards. 1 - 5 inches long

Habitat:

The rock gardens at NY Botanical Gardens

Notes:

Thought they were skinks at first, then looked them up. An introduced species from the Mediterranean. Sunning themselves on the rocks - very quick.

It's amazing how cold tolerant these little lizards are. They have established colonies around NYC and probably other areas in the region. I saw one once in Hicksville, NY (Long Island) though I haven't seen them since.
