They really love to take bites into that wood, even more when it was fresh. They seem attracted to it. They are called "Avispa Chia" (Chia wasp) by the locals

Vespidae, Polistinae, Polistes sp. and looks like being Polistes canadensis. To my knowledge this one is called Chia Wasp in Costa Rica. Please, verify!
