Chipmunk

Description:

It can be recognized by it's big black eyes, surrounded by a white circle. The stripes running down the back ending at the base of the tail. And fingers on each hand and foot. Its weight range is from 57g- 113g. And can range from 10cm- 18cm in size. The squirrel is in the same family as the chipmunk, the sciuridae family. They both eat nut, hibernate for the winter, and reproduce using sex The chipmunk has a mutualism with the Black Cherry (Prunus Serotina), the chipmunk gets food, the Black Cherry gets seed dispersal. The chipmunk has cmaoflaged fur, so it can hide from hawks, and racoons. They have five fingered hands and feet, so they can dig down to stay warm. And the fur is helpful for in the winter, so that while they are hibernating they can stay warm. This species uses sexual reproduction, and has a usual litter size of five. The average mating season is mid-April- mid-May. The pregnancy is around thirty days, then the female will rear the litter for about six weeks, without help help from the male. Most chipmunks reproduce once a year in the spring, but in in some cases they may breed again in the fall.
