Chinese Mantis

Tenodera sinensis

I had only seen green praying mantis before, does anyone know if this one is sick or is this a different type?

Hi Lindsay, many species of Mantis come in brown as well. I think the color of this mantis is normal, however it looks like it has had some sort of damage or malformation of its wings.

Did you happen to get any other views of this insect? It looks like either a Chinese Mantid or a European Mantis from the shape.
