I spotted the little green cutie in a shaded puddle on a track in my grandmother's pasture. You can see in the second picture that there are probably a number of different species of frogs' and toads' tadpoles in various phases of metamorphose.
You can probably describe this as a vernal pool as it stays wet for a fairly long time - but will probably be dry by the end of summer. The "roadbed" is compacted red clay, and over the hundred or so years it has been in use, this particular pool is maybe 4-5" long but only about 2" across - about 2 tires' wide.
