Multicolored Asian Ladybird Beetles

Description:

1. The Asian Ladybird in this photo has reddish wing covers. The multiple spots on the wings are light in color. 2. The other two are thirteen-spotted ladybird beetles and are found across the northern half of the continent. The ladybird beetles typically have red or orange wing covers with the head mostly hidden underneath the pronotum. They have short, clubbed antennae and relatively short legs

Habitat:

They are usually found on leaves, stems, flowers, and other plant parts. They are predators of aphids and other soft-bodied insects, although they can supplement their diet with pollen when prey is lacking.

Ladybird beetles overwinter as adults, sometimes in large groups. They can protect themselves against potential enemies by secreting a noxious fluid from leg and body joints.
