Hi there 15twilson, this is a Spadefoot. The immediate give away for that is the vertical pupils. If this were to be a Fowler's or American Toad, there would be dark spots on the back, then the number of warts in those dark spots is how you help distinguish them from each other. Also saying this is an American toad because it "has more warts than a fowler's toad" is incorrect, Fowler's toads have more warts per dark spot than American toads do.
