Unidentified Rockweed

Description:

Clusters of long, dark brown strands with little roundish looking clusters (thallus?) at intervals along the stem (stipe?), growing in thick wide mats on rocks. More dense than Endocladia at this location.

Habitat:

Rocky intertidal zones 2 and 3 of Gerstle Cove State Marine Reserve, from low tide level of 0.48 to mid tide level of 2.63.

Notes:

May be a variety of Neorhodomela, but quite different from larix (Black Pine Rockweed).
