As can be seen this (unidentified) hawk moth caterpillar was crossing my asphalt driveway to a cypress hedge lined lawn.
Is this an elephant hawk moth or some other?

I have now established that it is a caterpillar of Sphinx Pinastri or the Pine Hawk Moth…
