The red-base jezebel is a very common medium-sized butterfly of the family Pieridae. Underside of hindwing has a large patch of yellow scales and a basal red mark. Upperside of hindwing does not have the basal red mark. Active all year round. Caterpillars feed on Microsolen cochinchinensis. They fly slowly and love to pollinate. Male butterflies are territorial, a rare trait in the Pieridae family. 报喜斑粉蝶是属于粉蝶科的一种蝴蝶，是斑粉蝶属的一种，也是其模式种。后翅翅底有大片黄斑，基部有红斑，后翅翅面基部部则没有红斑。幼虫食用鞘花。飞行缓慢，爱访花。雄蝶具领域性，此习性在粉蝶科中较少见。
