(American) Black Bear

Ursus americanus

Description:

Black Bear, attempting to raid our backyard bird feeder.

Habitat:

Mixed coniferous/deciduous forest, coastal SE Olympic Peninsula, WA

Notes:

Had bear visitor this past summer, due to very warm previous Winter, short hibernation period, and late, wet Spring that resulted in lots of cranky, hungry bears foraging for food until the berries came out. Sorry it's not a better pic, but he surprised me when I walked outside and I definitely didn't want to stick around for a better shot!
