Oleander caterpillar-Polka dot wasp moth

Syntomedia epitais

Description:

Help, I used to know what this was. I think the brightly colored insect lays the eggs and the caterpillar hatches from the eggs and turns into the insect. At least I saw the caterpillars first.

Habitat:

My Alamanda vine bush in the butterfly garden. The insects were laying eggs on the back of the Alamanda leaf. They prefer Oleander to breed on , but I have found them on Alamanda both in Venice and Satasota and Dr. Fred Santana says that has happened in our area.

Notes:

I finally got smart and went back to my Facebook album which had the identification information.

They are so destructive, but turn into beautiful wasp moths!

Found the scientific name, and provided a link to Wikipedia. It has some more information on it. Great series, it's a neat moth.
