Toxostoma rufum
I've only ever seen this bird 3 times in my entire life. Very cool the way he pecks the ground viciously to get at worms and larva. Can usually see it running very fast on the ground and hiding in shrubs. At first glance looks kind of like a brown Mockingbird.

I have a pair that comes to my Summertime garden. But they are hard to catch in a picture because as you say they are rather elusive. I believe they are related to the Mockingbird, at least they are on the same page in my bird-book.
