Spotted in several locations in Olympic National Park. But no one was able to tell me about it. I believe this picture was taken on the road to Elwha Dam
Thank you shebebusynow! You sent me in the right direction. Based on the site I linked above I am now confident that it is a Wood Horsetail...I never would have gotten there without your help. It is actually the picture from this page that convinced me.
This is the vegetative stalk (sterile) of the plant. It's got a large silica content so can be useful for scouring things.
