Chrysocoris stolli
iridescent insect
I saw this bug on a train traveling through the Burmese countryside. It changed colors when light hit it.
Thanks Ashish, I think your ID is correct. It looks more like a tropical than a rainbow sheild. It doesn't have the black line down its back like the rainbow sheild does. It's very possible I was wearing a red shirt, good eye!
As per back design not match with Lori but with http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/593...
Do you wore reddish outfit or cap at that time, seen Red reflection on Bug.
OK. Look just above your little avatar photo (to the upper right of the spotting photo). You'll find the text "Edit this spotting". Click on it. Then you can edit all the fields. Be sure to click the Save Changes button at the bottom when you are done.
There should be a place right above where it says Spotted by dandoucette that says ''edit this spotting" with a little pencil and under lined like this: -------.
You're welcome Dan. I've really been enjoying your submissions.
By the way, do you know how to edit your submissions to change the information when you get a correct ID?
Lori.tas to the rescue! It would have fooled me, it for sure looks like a beetle. Wonderful picture!
It's not a beetle, but a Shield-backed bug (or Jewel bug), Scutelleridae. If you look you'll see that the "shoulder" segment flares into points, hence the shield-back designation. There's a photo here: http://www.flickriver.com/groups/844589@... (third from top) that might be the same as your shield bug, but unfortunately they don't have a species listed for it.
at least it give you somewhere to start.
