Elk

Cervus canadensis

Description:

There was only one other bull of equal size that I saw in this herd of about 30. He is probably 3-4 years old gauging by his antlers. Pic 4 shows him with his immediate family-harem (though it's probably larger than this). During the fall elk grow a thicker coat of hair to help insulate during the winter. The bulls will lose their antlers in the winter.

Habitat:

Spotted on one of the snow covered fairways at the Suncadia Resort near Roslyn, Wa.
